What is solar thermal heating?
Roof-mounted panels that heat water using sunlight, stored in a twin-coil hot water cylinder. Separate from solar PV (which generates electricity). Primarily offsets hot water energy use — typically 50-60% of annual hot water demand.
How much does installation cost?
Quoted after a free site survey — depends on roof type, system size (1-2 panels typical), existing cylinder, and pipework route. Typical domestic installs £3,000-£6,000 plus VAT.
Does it work in winter?
Yes — solar thermal works year-round, though output is much lower in winter. Your existing boiler tops up whenever the panels can not meet demand. Peak contribution is summer; negligible in deep winter.
What brands do you install?
Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, Kingspan Thermomax, Baxi, and others. We advise on the right panel type (flat plate or evacuated tube) for your roof and usage.
Does it need servicing?
Yes — annual service checks the glycol antifreeze, pump, controls, and sensors. Keeps the system running efficiently and catches small issues before they become expensive.
