Central Heating Engineers
Gas Safe and OFTEC central heating engineers. Whole-system design, repair, power flushing, smart controls, and upgrades. On site within 2 hours. No call-out fee.
What central heating engineers handle
Central heating is more than just the boiler. It's the whole system — boiler, flue, pipework, radiators, thermostats, zone valves, pumps, and cylinders — working together. Problems can appear in any component, and the fix often involves more than one.
We handle full systems from design through install, repair, and ongoing service. For single-component work see our boiler repair or heating engineer callout pages.
Whole-system services
- Full system design + install
- System repairs (multi-component faults)
- Power flushing (£350-£800 +VAT)
- Cold radiator diagnosis + rebalance
- System upgrades (combi conversion, zoning)
- Smart heating control retrofits
- Annual service + efficiency audit
- Hot water cylinder replacement

Central heating engineer FAQs
What do central heating engineers do?
Central heating engineers design, install, repair and service whole heating systems — boiler, radiators, thermostatic valves, zone controls, pumps, cylinders, pipework, and flue. We handle full system work, not just individual component repairs.
How much do central heating engineers charge?
Labour is £89 to £168.50 per hour +VAT. Most jobs are quoted as a fixed price after free on-site diagnosis. Whole-system repairs or power flushes are quoted per job.
What is a power flush?
A power flush cleans sludge and debris from your entire central heating system — radiators, pipework, and boiler. Improves heating efficiency, cures cold spots, and extends boiler life. £350 to £800 +VAT depending on system size and contamination level.
Should I upgrade my whole heating system?
Usually not necessary — most heating systems last 20+ years with regular servicing. Consider upgrading if: your boiler is over 15 years old, you have cold radiators despite a good boiler, radiators are noisy or sludgy (power flush first), or you are moving from oil to gas / system to combi.
Do you install smart heating controls?
Yes — we install and integrate smart thermostats, zone controls, and programmers (Hive, Nest, Honeywell, Tado, Heatmiser and others). Typical retrofit integrates with your existing boiler — no boiler replacement needed.
Do you cover oil central heating?
Yes — we are OFTEC registered for oil heating. See our oil boilers page for oil-specific service, repair, and installation details.
How long does a whole-system install take?
A like-for-like boiler swap is typically 1 day. A full central heating install (new boiler, rads, pipework) is 3-5 days depending on house size. Power flushes are 1 day. Smart control retrofits are usually half a day.
Could the final price be more than the quoted range?
For a standard repair or service, no — the price we agree is the price you pay. For larger jobs like power flushing or whole-system installations, pricing depends on site conditions. If unforeseen work is needed (e.g. pipework found to be corroded), we explain it, quote separately, and only proceed with your approval.
