Heating engineer FAQs

What does a heating engineer do?

A heating engineer diagnoses and repairs faults in your heating system — boiler issues, radiator problems, thermostat failures, zone valve faults, pump replacements, pressure loss, noisy operation, and cold spots. Gas Safe heating engineers are qualified to work on gas components; OFTEC engineers on oil.

How much does a heating engineer cost?

Our standard labour rate is £89 to £168.50 per hour +VAT — varies by time and location. Most callouts are quoted as a fixed job price after diagnosis. No call-out fee on top.

How quickly can you attend?

On site within 2 hours. Phone answered within 20 minutes. We cover Watford, Hertfordshire, North London and Middlesex from our Watford HQ.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Standard call-out and travel are included. Diagnosis is free — we quote the fixed repair price before any work begins.

Are you Gas Safe registered?

Yes — Gas Safe registered for gas work, OFTEC registered for oil heating. We only carry out work we are qualified for.

Do you cover central heating systems?

Yes. See our dedicated page for central heating engineers covering full system design, power flushes, and whole-system repairs.

What heating engineer jobs do you handle?

Boiler repairs, radiator repair/replacement, thermostat and programmer upgrades, zone valve failures, circulation pump replacement, system repressurisation, leak repairs, power flushing, and annual servicing. Full list on our services page.

Could the final price be more than the quoted range?

No — the price we agree after diagnosis is the price you pay. If while working we find an unforeseen issue requiring additional parts or time, we explain it, quote it separately, and only proceed with your approval. No work exceeding the original budget is undertaken without your consent.
